California's Proposition 187
This proposition was also known as the "Save Our State" (SOS) initiative. It was passed in 1994 by the people of California and it established a citizenship testing system and it prohibited illegal immigrants from using health care, public education and other social services. This proposition was eventually found to be unconstitutional but it showed how the Residents of California were concerned about the constantly growing illegal immigrant population. Large amounts of aliens living within any state incurs a severe economic strain on society. Tax paying citizens are being forced to pay for illegal immigrants to receive the same benefits that they themselves receive. If a person is benefiting from his great country then they should also be contributing to its greatness. If more states adopted this policy and deemed it constitutional, illegal immigration in American would greatly decline and the country would benefit greatly as a result. Clearly, given the overwhelming positive feedback of the citizens of California, illegal immigration is a large problem that needs to be addressed by the government.
